Top Five Non Lyrical Rappers by Badnews

Ok with all this lyrical and non lyrical BS that has been going on for a couple of weeks now it seems to me that this argument is something like the war on drugs... it just can't be won by either side. You will always have popular rappers who are true to the period with songs that are forgettable and careers that don't last forever. There only as good as their last hit. But I feel that the non- lyrical or "swag rappers" as I like to call them deserve some shine. So after doing some investigating and hard work, here are the top 5 non lyrical rappers of all time (in no particular order)

Drag-On- It's not what you know in the industry, it's who you know, and thank goodness Drag-On knew who he knew over at the Ruff Ryders camp. Drag-On is considered the weakest link in the Ruff Ryder chain, But he and his fans would probably take that as a compliment if you mention his name with the Lox, DMX or even Eve. Drag-On released his debut album, Opposite of H2O and most critics found it to be one of the worst albums of 2000 mostly because of the lyrical content. But that didn't slow him down. The album hit #5 on the billboard charts and he even starred in a couple of movies with Steven Segal and most recent Janky Promoters Starring Ice Cube and Mike Epps our hip hop version of Abbott and Costello. But who's on 1st? Not Drag-On, he couldn't spit a decent bar to save his life, yet he made the most out of nothing... and by that I mean he rode the Ruff Ryder wave until he fell off and drowned. Drag-On holds the title of most successful non-lyrical rapper for right now.

Biz Markie- Before you get all worked up this is the non-lyrical list not worst rapper list, and Biz Markie is by far the most deserving to be on this list. He might be the most lovable and adored rapper on the planet but, he raps like a 12 year old. Good thing Biz knew how to DJ as well because his career is more than enough proof to tell you that non-lyrical rappers have the shortest career span. But during the 80's and early 90's, Biz went on on a killing spree and cleaned up award shows dropping classic singles such as Vapors, Make the music with your mouth and VH-1's top 100 rap song of all time Just a Friend. Biz Markie made his stamp on Hip hop and he is indeed a legend, but he still couldn't put a decent bar together if you gave him a million dollars. And obviously that is a true statement because he more than likely earned more than a million dollars during his career.

Shawty- Lo- This is one of my favorite swag rappers because if you asked him if he thinks he is lyrical he will straight up tell you No. Not only will he tell you no, he won't even try and step it up or improve at least a little. But Shawty Lo being associated with D4L is more than enough reason for him to make this list alone but, he did drop a good album units in the city and hits such as I'm da man, Dun Dun and Dey know. Those were songs with crazy production and introduced us to the catchphrase "IT MUST BE TWO SIDES". Now other than his T.I. battle of Bankhead feud, he managed to stay relevant on the mix tape scene in Atlanta, but what probably sealed his non lyrical fate was when he hopped on the Gucci Bandana track with Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane... I'm at a lost for words.

Birdman- Money, Cars, Clothes and Hos. It was and still is the foundation to a damn Cash Money song before they introduced Young Money. Birdman by far makes this list because he has the worst lyrical content in music business history but he is still relevant! Why??? I think that if luxury items didn't rhyme so well with other words, he would had stopped rapping back in 99. He is a great business man and he knows how to make money I'll give him that but come on yo... we know your super duper rich and pop Champagne. if you have to rap about that all the time, at least get a little lyrical with it. Birdman sure has the business mind of Donald Trump but when it comes to rapping, it is NOT for the birds. Wayne would had made this list but he stepped it up and when he did that, he's been relevant for the past couple years because of it right?

Silkk the Shocker- I'll be the first to admit I was on that No Limit kick and if you asked me about 1998 or '99, my young dumb ass would had told you Silkk the Shocker was one of the best rappers out then. But looking back, all I can do is laugh. Silkk not only made this list because he can't rap for s#!t, but also because of his name... what the hell is a Silkk the Shocker? Like I said before in the music industry It's not what you know, it's who you know and if your Master P and C-Murder's little brother, you should at least come a little bit harder than what you did back in the 90's. His hits included It ain't my fault and Moving on featuring Mya and he even worked with a young Beyonce and Destiny's Child but if this list was numbered Silkk the Shocker would had been number one for the rest of hip hop eternity. So people before you get on Wacka Flocka or Soulja Boy please go listen to Silkk the Schocker and tell me if Wacka Flocka Flame is that bad.
